Hi, I looked at various forums about my first charge too!  Grin
Here's what I did & battery life is great:
charge phone straight out of box before using, turn on & charge until full (about 4 hours),
use as normal until battery is completely flat and phone turns itself off, then fully charge again (about 4 hours) & repeat this at least 3 times if poss, fully use battery & fully charge. Another important point to note if you want the best out of your battery is to disable 3G & only use it when necessary for internet. Go to network settings-network mode & select GSM, not Automatic. This makes a big difference because your phone will not keep looking for a 3G connection if you are in a poor signal area. Set screen brightness as low as poss & backlight time to shortest too. I get about 4 days with normal use, obviously music player, camera & wifi etc will drain it quicker. I hope this works for you! After initial charging cycle you shouldn't let battery drain to 'power off' anymore, as this can shorten life of the battery. Graham Smiley
